Double strollers are usually pricey, that’s why every parent want theirs to be durable and last for at least a few years. Here I present you a stroller that will serve you for 4 or even 5 years – Baby Jogger City Mini GT2 Double.
This is a perfect double stroller for every day strolls and running errands in the city jungle, and it also works amazing for off-road excursions.
No matter if you are strolling over dirt trails or going over New York City streets, Baby Jogger City Mini GT2 Double won’t let you down. It’s multi-functional and comfortable for the babies.
City Mini GT2 Double just hit the market in January 2020, but its previous model – City Mini GT Double has been a very popular and one of the best-selling double strollers in the US! I’m sure the 2020 City Mini GT2 Double will become a best-seller too.

Review: Baby Jogger City Mini GT2 Double 2020 & City Mini GT Double 2016
If you liked the Baby Jogger City Mini GT Double, the chances are that you’ll like the GT2 Double even more. The new stroller is the same twin buggy that parents and young riders loved and trusted. However, it has a few functional and design improvements that I am going to explain here.
For the sake of clearing any doubts, don’t let the brand name confuse you. The Baby Jogger City Mini GT2 Double is not a “jogger”. All in all, this is a stroller that won’t let city dwellers down whether you are strolling on newly laid or cracked pavements, or trying out new unbeaten trails in the park.
In this article, I’ll be reviewing the new Baby Jogger City Mini GT2 Double. I’ll also compare it to the previous model, Baby Jogger City Mini GT Double, so that you understand the improvements that the new stroller brings.
Now, let’s take a closer look at the double City Mini GT2 and GT features so you could find out if this is the right stroller for you and your children, and which model you should choose.
Seat
Both the City Mini GT Double and the City Mini GT2 Double have a side-by-side seating configuration, so the two riders face outward without anyone blocking the view of the other.
I like when a stroller seat offers enough space for my kids’ wiggles and turns during the rides, of course, without being overly bulky. The City Mini GT and GT2 Double are just that.
On both strollers the seats are awesomely roomy in all fronts from the width to the depth and height so your passengers won’t feel confined in a tight space. Each of these seats is designed to accommodate kids up to 50 pounds in weight. This weight limit, coupled with a maximum head height of around 26 inches, makes this stroller a good fit for twins and siblings of up to 5 years.
The seats are much longer and roomier than many other double strollers offer. I’ve read dozens reviews of double City Mini GT and found out that some parents use it for 5-year-old children! So it can be also used as a stroller for big kids. City Mini GT2 Double has the same roomy seats which ensure long usability.
If you take a look at customer reviews you will notice that lots of parents uses this stroller for bigger, older kids. It’s noting unusual that a 5-year-old fits in City Mini GT. The newer version of this stroller has the same roomy seats, so I’m sure big kiddos will love this stroller too.
Comfort and safety have been taken care of here too. Both seats have a nice padding and a decently stitched fabric that I expect to hold up well over the years.
It’s important to notice the difference in fabric between City Mini GT Double and City Mini GT2 Double. The former one has a Nylon fabric, that is very easy to clean with a wet cloth, while the latter one has some kind of jersey fabric which may be a bit more difficult to wipe clean, but it’s softer for baby’s skin.
What hasn’t changed is that each seat has an adjustable 5-point harness too to hold down the rider safely.
The seats can recline to a near-flat position to offer a comfortable place for naps on the go. There are also infinite recline angles in between for optimum comfort. Reclining the seat is a 2-hand operation, but it’s easy-peasy using a belt and buckle at the back. When fully reclined, there is an ample mesh ventilation with cover at the back to let in cooler air during hot summer months.
Note that these seats don’t recline flat. Even in their lowest position, they are still a few inches reclined. So, I would only recommend them for passengers with good neck and head control (3-6 months).
Seats recline individually so one child can ride in a near-flat position and the other one can sit upright and watch the surroundings. This is the infinite recline which means you stop it at whatever angle you want. You should remember that the most upright position is still few inches reclined.
The biggest improvement that the new Baby Jogger City Mini GT2 brought on the seat is an adjustable calf rest. Whether the riders are taking a nap or viewing the sceneries in straight up or reclined positions, you can adjust the calf support all the way up for optimum comfort.
When the seats are fully reclined you can uncover a seat back vents for additional ventilation – useful especially during summer strolls.
City Mini GT Double and City Mini GT2 Double cannot be used for newborn babies, however Baby Jogger offers bassinets that make these stroller suitable for infants (from birth up to 6 months). You can attach to the stroller one or two carrycots, depending on your needs. The bassinets are sold separately. Keep in mind that there is a different bassinet for 2016 City Mini GT Double and 2020 City Mini GT2 Double. The bassinet for old model can be found on Amazon, while the bassinet for the new stroller is available for example on PishPosh Baby. |
Travel System
With its standard stroller seats, the Baby Jogger City Mini GT2 Double can only be used with kids who have excellent head support. Most kids usually have strong neck muscles and steady head control in their 6th month.
If you are looking forward to using it with a newborn, there is an option to convert it into a travel system by attaching a car seat.
Note that if you have newborn twins, you won’t be able to have them both onboard using car seats. Commensurate with most double strollers, City Mini GT2 Double accepts only 1 infant car seat. This won’t be an issue, though, if you have an infant and an older child, or if you add bassinets – more on that in a moment.
The City Mini GT2 Double doesn’t come with any adapters. Therefore if you want to attach an infant car seat, you need to pay extra special adapter. There are different adapters for various car seat brands, including Baby Jogger, Graco, Cybex, and Maxi-Cosi.
It is noteworthy that the previous model – City Mini GT Double doesn’t include any adapters either – all of them are sold separately.
Bassinet
For parents who wish to use the Baby Jogger City Mini GT2 Double stroller with their twins right off the bat, you have an option to attach two Baby Jogger bassinets. This is the best, and only options for newborn babies, the bassinets hold their fragile and delicate spines and necks in a comfortable and safe position.
There is a new bassinet for the 2020 Baby Jogger City Mini GT2 Double which differs a bit from the bassinets that work with 2016 City Mini GT Double. Keep that in mind and choose the right bassinets that is compatible with your version of the stroller!
For the 2016 City Mini GT Double Baby Jogger has several bassinets. For instance, parents who want something affordable, can choose the Baby Jogger Compact Pram MB which continues to be an incredible choice. For those who want a premium bassinet, the Baby Jogger Deluxe Pram is a great option.
I should mention that this stroller doesn’t fold with the bassinets and you will, therefore, need to remove them first. That’s to say that will also require additional storage both at home and in your vehicle. So, factor that in if you are thinking about adding it to your purchase.
I really like Baby Jogger City Mini GT Double 2016 and GT2 Double 2020 for their versatility. Depending on your need, you can attach to the stroller one infant car seats and one or two bassinets.
Canopy
The canopy was one of the best components of the Baby Jogger City Mini GT Double owing to its enormous coverage. With the GT2 Double, the canopy is still as big, but the design has slightly changed to give it a more sophisticated look. The UV50+ material used on it also has a smoother feel than that of the old City Mini GT Double.
The Baby Jogger City Mini GT2 Double still uses the same 3-panel canopy design of its predecessor. And it extends way down to protect your precious cargo from direct sunlight.
One thing that I like about these strollers is that they come fitted with 2 peek-a-boo windows, one on the first canopy panel from the back, and the second one on the middle panel. Most 3-panel canopies with only one window do work just fine. But having two windows means that you’ll be able to check on the baby even when you have the first two panels closed.
What I find even more interesting is that the new City Mini GT2 Double now uses magnetic enclosures for its 2 peek-a-boo windows. This is a huge improvement from the previous model that uses Velcro closing. It means that you’ll be able to steal as many glances as you want on the sleeping passengers without the fear of waking them up with Velcro noise.
While we are still on the peek-a-boo windows, I was really hoping that Baby Jogger would use mesh instead of plastic. I think that mesh windows does an incredible job of increasing airflow in the cabin, especially when folding the canopies isn’t an option.
This is a minor issue, though, you can still use the seat top vents, when the seats are reclined.
Handlebar
The Baby Jogger City Mini GT2 Double brought one small change to the handlebar. It still uses the same handlebar with rubberized rings that Baby Jogger has been using for its City Mini GT Double 2016-2019. However the newest model has the rings only on the lower part (under your fingers), while the upper part of the handlebar is smooth. Older model has rings all over the grip.
I really like that this handlebar is not covered with foam – rubber grip is more durable therefor it won’t tear during storing or transporting. It’s much easier to keep clean, too.
Similar to the City Mini GT Double, the GT2 Double has a height-adjustable handlebar too. This means that you can move it up and down to fit your desired height. If you are a tall parent moving from a stroller with a non-adjustable handlebar, this will be a life-changer more so if you experience back pains after prolonged slouching. For short parents, this handlebar has a wide height range too. So, you should get a sweet spot that allows you to push the stroller without straining your wrist.
Adjusting the height of the handlebars is breezy. You simply push in the buttons on both sides of the handlebar and rotate the bar to your desired level. This process may sound complicated, but it’s something that you can actually do on the fly.
The freedom to set the handlebar to your desired height is super impressive if the stroller will be shared between caregivers of different heights. But I wish that this handlebar telescopes as opposed to pivoting up and down. The thing with a telescoping handlebar is that it increases the clearance between your foot and the stroller’s rear axle.
This is a big deal for people with longer legs as it significantly lowers the chances of hitting their lower foot on the axle as they take longer strides. But I’m not complaining, it’s good that City Mini GT and GT2 Double have at least rotating handlebars!
Brake
Baby Jogger didn’t change the type of brake on the new model. It still uses the same hand-operated brake that the City Mini GT Double used. Unlike what we are used to with most buggies, this stroller’s handbrake is not fixated on the handlebar. Instead, it is positioned on the frame (on the right-hand side of the canopy). Therefore it doesn’t get in the way when you’re pushing the stroller.
If you are anything like me and you are used to simply hitting a ‘red’ lever on the rear axle, you’ll need to keep reminding yourself that the brake is on the frame. The key advantage that the position of this brake brings is that it gives you more space on the handlebar for easy and convenient steering. Much better, you won’t worry about getting your office sandals ruined by an unforgiving foot-operated brake pedal anymore.
Thanks to the handbrake you have the full control within reach and steering is very easy and convenient.
Wheels & Suspension
Now, let’s switch gear to 2 features that differentiate a great stroller from a not-so-great buggy: type and size of wheels, and suspension system. These 2 aspects also dictate what you can do with the stroller and where you can go with it.
This stroller uses 4 rubber wheels measuring 8.5 inches. The fact that these wheels are rubber-filled (not air) implies that they will never go flat on you. Something else that I like here is that the front wheels can swivel 360 degrees for excellent maneuverability. You can also lock them into one place to make long rides smoother.
Even better, unlike the City Mini GT Double, where only the front wheels had suspension, the new GT2 Double comes with an all-wheel suspension system for excellent shock absorption.
This stroller’s never-flat, medium-size tires plus the 4-wheel suspension system means that you can do anything with it from running errands in the city to discovering new paths in the countryside. This stroller can handle cracks, bumps and debris and your passengers won’t feel them! It also works well on grass, mulch, old bumpy sidewalks and cobblestone, a bit worse on gravel. I only wouldn’t take it on loose sand or trails with lots of roots.
Remember what I told you earlier on, though: this is not a jogging stroller. The “jogger” in its name is a brand name and does not refer to the type of stroller.
Storage Basket
This stroller has pretty roomy storage basket, but unfortunately it is divided with a bar in the middle. That’s why although the basket is big, you can’t fit there even a medium-sized diaper bag. But you can fit there many items separately. It is definitely sufficient for babies essential (I didn’t mind taking only few diapers, snacks and sippy cups instead of whole diaper bag) or mom’s handbag.
Because of this bar, the access to the basket is blocked and you cannot take full advantage of the storage space. In my opinion that’s the main flaw because the double City Mini GT 2016 is designed for running everyday errands and shopping! Nevertheless, there are two additional pockets on the back of the seats for your belongings like keys, phone, wallet etc.
Such a pity that Baby Jogger has not solved this issue on the 2020 City Mini GT2!
However, thanks to adjustable calf rests, you can now access the storage basket from the front. It makes a lot of sense when you try to access the basket when both seats are fully reclined. You’ll be able to take out some small items using the front access.
Weight and size
Even with the few improvements that I have highlighted above, the City Mini GT2 Double didn’t change a lot in terms of size. This stroller measures 44″ x 29.75″ x 30-43.5″ and weighs around 32 pounds.
Let’s face it: this stroller is bulky and heavy. But these figures fall right within the range of what other side-by-side double strollers come at. The weight of this stroller may seem intimidating (for petite moms like me) more so if you have to lift the stroller regularly. But it’s something you get used to.
Folding
Here starts the magic of the City Mini GT Double 2016 and GT2 Double 2020. Both strollers have special, patented folding technology named fold™. When you want to fold the stroller you just need to pull the straps placed in the middle of the seats and the stroller will fold itself! I think it is one of the best (if not THE BEST) folding system I’ve ever used.
If you have ever worried that a double stroller would be difficult to fold, you can forget about it with City Mini GT Double and GT2 Double.
Both these strollers have an automatic lock to keep the stroller closed and compact for storage or transportation. Dimensions of the folded Baby Jogger City Mini GT Double 2016 are: 12.5″ x 29.75″ x 31″. There’s only one drawback here – it doesn’t stand on its own. City Mini GT2 Double didn’t change much in terms of size and dimensions, so the fold size is similar.
Here you can watch a video from Baby Jogger and see the magical folding process. 🙂
Ease of use
We are all yet to know how pushing the Baby Jogger City Mini GT2 Double will be like. However, judging from its predecessor’s performance, I expect it to offer super smooth rides. Its swiveling front wheels suggest that maneuvering in crowded areas will be relatively easier. The fact that these wheels can be locked in place also means that long walks have been taken care of too.
Also, the rubber wheels, coupled with the full suspension system, point out the ability to stroll over all surfaces. Lastly, the adequately padded, individually operated seats with near-flat recline system and adjustable calf rest mean that the riders will have a good amount of comfort.
Pros & Cons
To sum up my City Mini GT and GT2 Double Stroller Review I present you the major advantages and disadvantages.

What other parents think about City Mini GT Double and GT2 Double?
I checked these strollers on Amazon, as I always do. The older model has tons of positive reviews, the newest one has just hit the market so we have to wait for buyers feedback.
Regarding the City Mini GT Double – parents praise its wheels, easy folding, sturdy construction, easy to adjust handlebar and convenient handbrake, near-flat recline and good-sized canopy that provides nice shade. According to other customers it is easy to maneuver and push with one hand.
Parents love that this stroller can accommodate taller kids and can be used also for older children (even 5-year-old). Among main disadvantages parents mention: it is heavy to put in and out of the car trunk and difficult to fit through narrow store aisles. Customers also complain about the storage basket.

Baby Jogger City Mini GT & GT2 Double Review – Conclusion
Baby Jogger City Mini GT and GT2 Double are designed for safety and stylish all-terrain cruising. They are easy to operate with two kids inside, no matter if you’re running errands in the city or strolling in a park.
Keep in mind
Remember that these strollers are not design for jogging (Baby Jogger is brand’s name, not the type of stroller). They are quite heavy and have rather small storage basket.

It does have a jogging feature. You can lock both front wheels to use it as a jogger 🙂
Yes, you can lock front wheels for getting through rougher surfaces like gravel, but it’s not for jogging! The wheels are not air-filled, there’s not enough suspension and it’s not tested to be safe for running. There would be too many shocks and bumps and your baby will wiggle in the seat too much! Please don’t use this stroller for jogging, it’s designed for everyday use, for strolls.
Can you confirm that the new GT2 double comes with an adapter? I have not found that it comes with any adapters.
Thanks
Hey Sean! I just checked and it looks like BJ changed their mind and all adapters for GT2 Double are sold separately 🙁
Thank you for the detailed review. I called Baby Jogger to see if my Chicco carseat would be compatible and it”s not. They did however, confirm that the stroller can be used from birth (baby weighing more than 7lbs) can be directly in the stroller as long as the seat was fully reclined until they can sit up. That’s a big game changer! Just thought I’d let others know.
Hi Mona, thanks for the insight! 🙂
Hi do u think this would be suitable for 15kg 4 year old and 8kg 6 month old thanks
Hi Mag,
yes, it should be fine! I’ve seen a lot of parents using BJ City Mini GT for 4 or even 5 year old kids. How tall is your 4 year old? On this stroller the max. head height is 26″ (I recommend you to measure your child’s torso). For 6 month old it will be great too, if he/she has head control – because the seat doesn’t recline fully flat.
Hi! I have a Bumbleride Single jogger but I need a double stroller for my 6 month old who weighs 20 lbs and 3 year old who is 40lbs and both are very tall. I need it mostly for walking to the park or to town. I can’t decide between the Baby Jogger City Mini GT & GT2 Double. Or if I should do the Bumbleride instead ! They probably won’t sleep in it so the Velcro on GT doesn’t bother me. The stain resistant fabric and bigger basket on the GT SOUNDS better too.. Any advice ? Please help!
Hi Jen,
The baskets on both these strollers are similar, they both have issue with access (because of the bar in the back, in the middle of the basket), so I don’t think this feature should be a dealbreaker (if you’re considering just these 2 strollers). However, the difference in fabric is significant. GT fabric is easier to clean, because it’s Nylon. GT2 has softer fabric, nicer to touch, but it may get wet quicker and it may be more difficult to clean with a cloth.
I love Bumbleride too, but for tall children City Mini GT seems to be more comfortable, because the seats are long. Lots of parents use this stroller even for 5 year old kiddos!
Last question.. When will accessories be available for the GT2 Double?
Hey Jen,
Some accessories are available: Pram (the bassinet) is available on Baby Jogger website; on Amazon you can find a snack tray and a rain shield. Adapters for Baby Jogger and Graco are on BJ website (here), you can order there Maxi Cosi and Cybex adapters as well (here).
Hi! Is there a rain cover that you could purchase to surround the individual seating areas?
I don’t think so 🙁
Do you know if the deluxe pram will fit the 2016 or 2020 versions? Thank you!
Hey Jenny! Deluxe Pram works with 2016 model. The 2020 City Mini GT2 Double has a new bassinet (you can check it on Baby Jogger website).
Hi! Do you know the difference between the 2016 citi mini double gt and the newest anniversary edition 2018 citi mini double gt?
Thank you!
Hi Emily! Have you seen City Mini GT Double in anniversary version?:) I’ve only seen the single model anniversary edition and the differences refer mainly to stroller look and included bumper bar. There is also a leather trim on the footrest and athleisure fabric on the seat (it’s softer than Nylon that you can find on the regular City Mini GT seat), padding is also more rich, a bit more comfortable and the harness has leather covers. I assume that double version of the stroller has similar upgrades 🙂 There are no differences in functions.
