Best Bassinet For C-Section Moms | Safest & Easiest To Use

If you’ve ever had a C-section or are considering the possibility of one, then this post is for you. Here are the best bassinets for C-section moms, each with a quick review, to help you find the best one for you and your new little bundle of joy.

Best Bassinet For C-Section Moms

Bassinets are great for all moms with newborns, but they are especially awesome for C-section moms because they make it easier to care for your baby without even getting out of bed.

Sleep Together (Safely)

You can safely sleep beside your newborn in a specially-designed co-sleeper, and even put baby essentials at arm’s reach so you don’t have to get up and move around at night.

We know any movement can be painful after a C-section, that’s why a bassinet for C-section moms can be a game-changer.

In this article I am going to review six awesome bassinets for C-section moms that are convenient to use when mama’s body is all sore.

Essential for C-section moms

All moms need rest after delivery, but after a C-section delivery, moms have some extra health and movement restrictions (if you can bend, positions for feeding baby) that make caring for a newborn that much harder.

And of course, everybody’s sleeping patterns are going to be a mess for a few weeks and you are going to need plenty of sleep. Thankfully, the best bassinets let you stay in your bed while nursing or caring for your baby.

6 Best Bassinets For C-Section Moms In 2022

Here are six great bassinets for C-section moms, you’re sure to find the best bassinet for you and your baby from this list:

1. Mika Micky Baby Bassinet Bedside Sleeper

First up is the awesome Mika Micky Bassinet that sits on a sturdy frame and adjusts with telescoping legs. It comes with a comfortable mattress and sleeping board.

I love this bassinet for c-section mothers because it is so versatile: the side wall folds down and you can attach it directly to your own bed for a safe co-sleeping option, and it can be a stand-alone bassinet, too.

Convertible Design

Mama, I know night-time feeding and dealing with baby’s different sleeping patterns can be difficult, so I like anything that can make nights a little bit easier.

This bedside bassinet does just that: the foldable sides and breathable mesh walls make it easy to access your baby for that 3 am feed, as well as watch your baby sleep (we know, all moms do it).

Mika Micky Bedside Baby Sleeper

Adjustable Height

In terms of adjustability, the Mika Micky Bassinet offers 7 different heights (from 18″ up to 26″), one of which is sure to suit your adult bed.

It also has two storage pockets on each side for keeping baby essentials at arm’s reach. The built-in wheels have locking brakes, so you don’t need to worry when using this as a stand-alone bassinet, later on.

Safety

This bassinet is ATSM certified for safety, so you can be sure it was carefully tested.

Its sturdy frame is approved for use with babies until up to five months of age (or until they begin sitting up), so you will get a lot of use out of this bassinet, even past the first few months of baby’s life.

2. Dream On Me Skylar Bassinet

Another good bassinet for C-section moms is this Dream On Me Bassinet: lightweight, but strong and sturdy, the aluminum frame makes this one durable bassinet.

Dream On Me Skylar

I like it because it is one of the few bassinets that come in different colors, instead of only neutral or grey tones and it comes with a travel bag, so you can take it on the go (perfect for weekends at grandma’s)!

Safety

This bassinet meets the highest safety standards: it is JPMA certified and ASTM approved, for babies up to 6 months old.

Adjustable Height

There are five heights that measure from 26″ up to 30″ if parents bed or mattress is a bit higher.

Convertible Design

To convert this bassinet into a bedside sleeper, simply roll the mesh side wall down and secure to your adult bed with the safety straps (included).

The breathable mesh fabric also means that you can be sure this is a safe bassinet, that allows for plenty of ventilation and visibility.

Dream On Me Skylar Bedside Baby Sleeper

Comparison

The design is a lot like the popular (but more expensive) Baby Delight Beside Me Dreamer Bassinet, in the way that the base conforms to the shape of a bed to allow it to slide right up on your adult bed’s firm mattress and act as a side-sleeper.

Both the Dream On Me Skylar Bassinet and the Baby Delight Bassinet maneuver on two wheels, which make it easy to move the bassinet to another room.

Between the two, I think they have the same quality, but the Skylar is offered at a better value and comes with a travel bag so you can use it when you travel, too.

3. HALO BassiNest Swivel Sleeper 3.0

If safety is your number one priority, then the best C-section bassinet, hands down, is the Halo Bassinest Swivel Sleeper.

Halo BassiNest 3.0
Halo BassiNest 3.0

It was designed by an engineer-dad who made it his life’s passion to address safety concerns for baby’s sleep. Since its inception, the Halo Bassinet has won numerous awards and is JPMA certified for safety.

Design

This isn’t just a baby bassinet – it is the Halo “BassiNest”, which means the removable sleeping “nest” can be taken off of the frame with one easy movement and set up in another room.

Those first few weeks, you probably want your baby close, and this removable nest allows you to easily bring the bassinet anywhere in your house. Also, being a compact bassinet, this is great for new moms living in studio apartments or small spaces.

Halo Bassinet new swivel co-sleeper 2022

The Halo bassinet has a patented lowering bedside wall, which makes it the best bassinet for C-section moms because there is no need to strain to pick up your baby, straight from your own bed.

And, it is the only bassinet that offers swivel (a complete 360º), which is a dream for moms recovering from a c-section, because they can turn the whole bassinet around, without getting out of bed.

Halo BassiNest comes with a waterproof mattress and a machine-washable fitted sheet. The bassinet is easy to clean, too (just use soft cotton cloths, nothing abrasive).

Adjustable Height

The adjustable legs provide stability and they fit seamlessly underneath a bed frame. The Halo suits different heights of parents bed: from 24″ up to 30″ inches.

PRO TIP: If you’re looking for the best bassinet for transitioning baby to the nursery, I recommend you this Halo BassiNest Luxe version because it has a full soothing kit with a music box, sounds, gentle night light, and floor light, and two vibration options (battery-operated) to give both you and the baby a good night’s sleep. If you’re on a tight budget and don’t really need sound features and motion, or the swivel cradle, check out this BassiNest Flex. It has a bedside lowering wall, like other versions of this bedside sleeper, but this model is WAY cheaper.

By the way, you should know that Halo BassiNest is also one of the best inexpensive alternatives to high-end Snoo bassinet. Although it doesn’t have a motion powered by cry detector, it’s still an amazing bassinet with lots of useful features (and more reasonable price). You can read my comparison of Snoo vs. Halo here.

Double version of this bassinet called Halo BassiNest Twin Sleeper is one of the best bassinets for twins – which you can also bring right next to your bed to reach your newborns without getting out of bed and bending.

4. Baby Delight Beside Me Dreamer Bassinet & Bedside Baby Sleeper

Another great C-section bassinet is the Baby Delight Beside Me Bedside Bassinet Sleeper. I like that it is very simple and offers breathable mesh sides so you can see baby and know they have sufficient air flow.

Baby Delight Beside Me Dreamer Bedside Baby Bassinet
Baby Delight Beside Me Dreamer

Baby Delight sleeper offers 6 height settings so it fits most of adults’ beds.

Like some other bedside sleepers, the side panel has a side zipper which allows easy access to your baby. It’s really convenient when it’s time for midnight feeding, because you don’t really have to get out of your bed and bend down.

You can be sure this bassinet comes with everything needed for newborns for safe & sound sleep: a fiber-fill mattress with soft, waterproof fitted sheet.

Convertible Design

There are two options for using this bassinet: as a bedside sleeper or a standalone bassinet. It is JPMA certified for safety and attaches to adult beds with safety straps.

Baby Delight Bassinet better than ronbei bassinet

Comparison

The Beside Me Bedside Bassinet is similar to the popular Ronbei bassinet.

In contrast to Ronbei Bedside Bassinet, this Baby Delight Bassinet has two rolling wheels, not four, but it still moves around the room easily to give mom space to get out of bed without the need to scoot down the mattress (which would be painful and uncomfortable).

And just like with the Ronbei bassinet, Baby Delight bassinet mattress can be slightly inclined (this is supposed to help infants with acid reflux, but the jury is still out on overall safety for sleeping with any amount of incline, so beware!).

5. Arm’s Reach Clear-Vue Co-Sleeper Bedside Bassinet

If you’re on the hunt for the best bassinet for C-section moms, check out the Arm’s Reach Bassinet, which was designed not only with pediatricians and baby experts – but also with OBGYNs, so you, dear Mama who just went through surgery to bring your infant into the world, were considered, too.

Arm’s Reach Clear-Vue Co-Sleeper Bedside Bassinet for moms after C-section
Arm’s Reach Clear-Vue Co-Sleeper Bedside Bassinet

Convertible Design

The Arm’s Reach co-sleeper is both a bedside sleeper and a standalone bassinet.

It rolls on four castor wheels and has mesh walls for maximum air flow and visibility. You can see (and easily access) your baby, straight from your own bed.

However, I will say that this bassinet does feel a bit bulky when compared to the rest of the other bassinets on this list.

Storage Space

Not only is there a hanging basket under the baby’s bassinet, but extra storage on the side, too. So you can keep baby essentials for middle-of-the-night diaper changes without needing to bend or expend too much effort.

We know you’re healing from surgery, and this Arms Reach bassinet is designed to help you recover more comfortably.

Arm’s Reach Clear-Vue Co-Sleeper Bassinet

Safety

The Arms Reach bassinet adheres to the American Academy of Pediatrics’ recommendations for babies to sleep next to their parents, but not actually in bed with them.

Fun fact: this was the original “co-sleeper” – the company invented the term! They also created the first patented, safe co-sleeping design to secure a bassinet to the parents bed. It is a winner in terms of safety.

I also really like that it comes with everything you need: a mattress, nylon strap, and a fitted sheet so you don’t have to buy any additional accessories. This bassinet can be used until your baby is approximately 5 months old.

6. Chicco Close To You

I like the Chico Close To You Bassinet as a bedside sleeper and moveable bassinet that you can take to another room in your home.

Chicco Close To You
Chicco Close To You

Design

Its steel and aluminum frame is both strong and lightweight for moving baby easily from baby’s nursery to another room.

Quality material is used in the mesh sides to be breathable and help keep your baby cool as they rest.

Accessories

The built-in soothing device provides vibration, music and a nightlight that make this a best bassinet for transitioning baby to the nursery.

In terms of convenience, Chicco has really thought of moms: a reversable mattress (one side is waterproof) and fabrics that easily remove with a zipper to make is so easy to throw them in the washing machine for a quick cleaning.

Chicco Close To You Portable Bassinet with wheels for C-section moms

Height

It is great for C-section moms because the bassinet adjusts to heights up to 33.5″, the tallest option on this list!

But, the highest setting isn’t for sleeping, it is for use as a changing table.

Personally, I think the changing table-feature is a bit silly because most moms have a much better solution for a changing table than using their baby’s bassinet, but props to Chicco for thinking of alternative ways to use this bassinet besides just for sleep!

What To Look For In The Best Bassinet For C-Section Moms?

Here are the most important features that a bassinet should have to make the first months with a newborn baby easier, when mama is healing after Cesarean section.

Moveable

Some of the great features of a bassinet (as opposed to a crib) are the portability and ease of movement.

Easy Access

If you are a C-section mom, you want something that allows you easy access to your baby without straining, or even standing up, if you can. Many bassinets have sides that you can open and make them a co-sleeper or bedside sleeper, which is ideal for keeping baby close.

Adjustable Height

Also, the best bassinets or co-sleeper bassinets have numerous adjustable height options, so you can make sure it is the exact right height for your bed.

How To Choose The Best Bassinet For Your Adult Bed?

If you’re still unsure what’s the best bassinet for c-section moms, my answer would be: whatever is most suitable for your bed and living space. And, whichever offers accessories (like storage pockets with enough room for baby’s necessities) to help you recover.

There are two types of bassinets: a standalone bassinet and a co-sleeper bassinet. Some easily convert to be either with an adjustable side panel.

What you want is something that fits the size of your bed, and emphasizes, above all, safety.

Co-Sleeper Bassinets

Co-sleepers are great for parents with limited space as the bassinet sits just right up on the mattress of the adult bed.

A co-sleeper that rests against parent’s bed (bedside sleeper) should secure against the bed frame with straps. This means that you can be in your warm bed, and your baby is sleeping right beside you.

This is the best type of bassinet after C-section because it does not require that you stand up and get out of bed to attend to your baby.

Safety Standards

Look for quality products that have a high rating and are certified by a recognized authority in safety for babies. Make sure to review their safety awards, too.

Breathable mesh sides or a mesh side panel are the safest for ventilation. It’s also a comfort when you can easily see your sleeping baby through the mesh walls.

Retractable Side Wall

A side panel that rolls down (or easily pushes down, in the case of the Halo BassiNest) is a must for easy access to your baby. Look for mesh-walls, even if the side rolls down when in use as a bedside sleeper, you still want mesh walls for when you convert it to a standalone bassinet.

Suitable For Your Bed

Whether you are using the bassinet as a co-sleeper post-c-section, or as a standalone bassinet, you want the legs to fit under your bed and the frame to adjust to the correct height.

The best bassinet for C-section moms should have adjustable legs so you can easily reach your baby when standing or sitting, so that post-c-section, you don’t bend over.

Portability

While traditional bassinets don’t have wheels, a good bassinet for C-section moms should slide on wheels that allow you to move the bassinet to another room, or away from your bed so you can get up without causing you to strain.

All the bassinets on this list are great for C-section mothers because they are lightweight and easy to roll away from your bed on durable wheels.

If the portability and built-in wheels are important features for you, check out my full list of the best bassinets with wheels.

Storage Pockets

A good bedside bassinet for C-section moms has storage options that are easy to reach so moms who have just had c-sections don’t have to stand up and get out of bed for basic baby chores, like changing diapers.

Accessories

Now, additional accessories like a music box, hanging toys or a soothing kit are nice, but they aren’t deal breakers for bassinets for C-section moms. Most babies in their first few weeks of life won’t pay attention to them, anyway.

However, as these bassinets all can be used with babies up to 5 months of age, you may find them a nice comfort for helping your baby sleep, later on.

Best Bedside Bassinet For Moms After C-Section – FAQ

Are you still hesitating which bedside bassinet to choose or which best bassinet for C-section moms will suit you best? Or maybe you’re unsure if you actually need it at all? Maybe a space-saving mini crib would be a better option! Here is additional information you should know to make a a well-thought-out decision.

Do New Moms Need A Bassinet?

A bassinet is not a requirement for newborns, but it can be a life-saver with c-section babies.

Mom is going to have movement restrictions (like no bending, no lifting, ect.) that can make using a stationary crib difficult.

Bassinets are wonderful because they allow mom to get a little more rest, with baby right beside her. With a good bedside bassinet, you can easily nurse or comfort your baby, without even getting out of bed.

And, when you do feel up to getting out of the bedroom, a lightweight (yet sturdy) bassinet can be easily moved to another room in the house.

Can A Bassinet Be Too Big For Newborn?

In most cases, if your child is at home with you, then they are big enough to sleep in one of the certified-safe bassinets on this list.

Rather, what you should consider, is when your child will be too big for the bassinet.

There are three factors to look for to determine if your baby is ready for a crib:

  • they start sitting up on their own,
  • they are five months old, or
  • they are near the bassinet’s weight limit (usually around 20 lbs)

then you know, it’s time for a transition to the crib.

Of course you can also go for a crib or mini crib from birth, and skip the bassinet, but the latter one is the most convenient option to keep baby as close as possible (without actual bed-sharing) after Cesarean delivery. If you have doubts which one to choose, make sure to read my comparison: bassinet vs. mini crib vs. full-sized crib.

If you have any concerns about your baby sleeping in a bassinet or crib, make sure to talk to your doctor.
